The Honorable Beth E. Bernstein
S.C. House of Representatives 532C Blatt Building
Columbia, SC 29201

Dear Representative Bernstein,

I write on behalf of nearly 2,800 private businesses the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Represents, in support of H. 3082. As you know, this legislation would allow a local county, like Horry, to determine whether it should allow retail stores the option of selling liquor on Sundays. We believe that the time has come for this legislation.

In 2018, the Myrtle Beach area welcomed 20.4 million visitors. 39 percent of those visitors were first time visitors – and during their time in Myrtle Beach those first-time visitors spent nearly $4 billion. While some of those first-time visitors came from South Carolina, our other top markets include: North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Tennessee, Maryland, New York and West Virginia. As you can see, most of these visitors are coming from markets that allow for the retail sale of liquor on Sundays or allow for a local option, which is what H. 3082 seeks to create. We believe that this legislation will help improve our first-time visitor experience, which in turn helps turn those first-time visitors into visitors that will make Myrtle Beach a yearly tradition.

Thank you very much for your attention to this issue. If you have any questions, please contact me at jimmy.gray@visitmyrtlebeach.com.

Sincerely,

Jimmy Gray
